Scoil na nÓg is an early intervention pre-school for young children with Autism. It caters for six children aged 3-5 years.
In Scoil na nÓg an eclectic child centred approach is used to help each child to develop skills in the areas of language and communication, social skills, personal care skills, independence, play and learning skills. We pride ourselves on providing a nurturing and caring environment where children feel safe and secure and where they develop positive relationships with us and each other.
Our methodologies are based on the TEACCH approach, taking into account the importance of the physical environment, a predictable sequence of activities, visual schedules, routines and flexibility. Children’s individual needs are valued and met through elements of different interventions including Intensive Interaction, The Curiosity Programme, Attention Autism and SCERTS. Furthermore, activities as part of the eclectic approach include therapeutic play and outdoor play, music, art and crafts and social integration opportunities.
Through play and daily routines we provide holistic and multi-sensory learning experiences encouraging independence, communication and self-esteem. The classrooms provide a clearly structured environment with visual support systems in place, enhancing independence and orientation. Facilities in Scoil na nÓg comprise of a large main classroom with dining-area to the side, play-room/work room (the Rainbow Room), sensory room, art and crafts; water play room and outdoor play-areas (a covered area for sand play and a playground and garden area with a large trampoline). Activities are designed to give opportunities to encourage communication and interaction, support gross and fine-motor skills, provide multi-sensory experiences and, very importantly, promote fun and enjoyment!!
