European School Sports Day 2023

On Friday 29th September, we took part in European School Sports Day. It is a day to celebrate sport and physical activity. As the Rugby World Cup was in full swing in September, we decided to have a day of tag rugby. All classes were able to participate and there was great excitement and fun on the day.

Our Walkway Day

On Friday 24th September, we took part in the BeActiveWalkway Day as part of National Walking Day 2021. Our students really enjoyed getting involved in this activity. Well done everyone!

Physical Education

Physical Education is for all students from Junior classes to school leavers. We use the curriculum to guide us through the six strands which are Aquatics, Athletics, Dance, Games, Gymnastics and Outdoor and Adventure.

In the Senior School, we also use the Priority Learning Units from Personal Care in the Junior Certificate Level 1 and Level 2 Programmes. The Physical Education curriculum contributes to each students overall physical and mental health by helping them to lead a full, active and healthy lifestyle. Daily incidental sensory activities also promote physical activities and emotional well-being.T

eacher CPD – April 2019

On Friday 5th April, Ms Commins and Ms Barrett attended the Move Well, Move Often Seminar 3 at WIT Arena.

The Seminar was run by the PDST. The title of the Seminar was ‘Developing the Physically Literate Pupil through the lens of Fundamental Movement Skills.’

The course was informative and interactive and both teachers are looking forward to sharing this knowledge with the whole staff.

Partnerships

Scoil Chormaic are working in partnership with others to promote an active school community. In school we have formed an Active School Flag Committee.

Patrick Tate (student) and Cheilla McGrath are the designated PE Equipment Monitors.

Scoil Chormaic has forged links with local Sports Clubs including Larkspur Park and Cashel Rugby Club. The school also uses the local swimming pools to facilitate aquatics. This includes Clonmel Swimming Pool, Clonmel Park Hotel, Canon Hayes Centre and Thurles Leisure Centre. The school also makes use of a local fitness gym.

Last year, the school worked with the Tipperary school Partnership which included Cycle Safety and Yoga classes.

Scoil Chormaic uses local natural amenities including Dundrum Woods, Rockwell College lake walk and the Rock of Cashel.

Physical Activities

In Scoil Chormaic, we promote physical activity throughout the school week.

In the Junior School, these activities include soccer, dance hurling, swimming, Jacuzzi, go karting, occupational therapy gym, nature walks, historical walks, walks to the school farm, trampoline and class PE sessions.
